Gods and Mortals

Welcome back to Term 4 ! This term our learning will involve explorations into the myths and legends of Ancient Greece.

We began our term with an immersion day to become familiar with some famous Greek personalities, mathematicians, scientists and philosophers.

As we move through term, please check your child’s school bag every day for letters, homework and their reading book. P.E sessions are set for Fridays however, whenever possible, we’d like to ensure your child can take part in active sessions such as drama and dance so please send swimming kit in on a Monday. While the weather is pleasant, one P.E session will be based in the hall, the other outside, so please could your child have appropriate kit available.

Our work this term will be:

Literacy
We will be developing our spelling and punctuation skills further whilst exploring different writing genre that match the tone of our topic, the Ancient Greek were renown for their tragedies and mythical tales. We'll be creating scripts and modern day myths.

Guided Reading
Reading is an everyday activity that is the foundation for children to access our world. Given how valuable these skills are, we will work daily to develop both fluency of reading and understanding. Children will have a reading book to bring home every day to support our work in class.

Maths
With the introduction of the Y4 Times tables test, these will clearly be an important feature of our maths learning. We will also be developing our number fluency by examining in detail the four operations.

Science
Our omnivores in Year 4 will be learning how food chains work by being able to sort and classify different animals and their habitats.

Topic
Our topic work will draw on the themes of our text, we will be using research skills to investigate predators starting with Canadian wildlife.

RE
Following the Lincolnshire agreed syllabus for RE we will be investigating how different religions express their faith.

French
How would you describe  in French? We will be beginning our studies with basic descriptions.

Homework
Learning at home is essential to reinforce work done in school. To support your child we will be sending home weekly spellings that will then be tested in class. Children should spend time every day building their knowledge of times tables in preparation for the National Tests in June. In addition there will be short  activities for either Literacy or Numeracy. Any children enjoy pursuing the ideas they learn about in lesson, to guide them in ways of exploring them, we will issue the Home Learning project list which contains suggested home learning activities.

As always Term 3 will be very busy but we hope very enjoyable. If you have any questions please feel free to speak to members of the LKS2 team.
