Design & Technology

We provide comprehensive coverage of the National Curriculum for Design & Technology through our Topic based school curriculum. Our lesson Learning Objectives are all linked directly to the requirements of National Curriculum.

Our key aim is to help children to develop their Design & Technology skills year-on-year. In order to show clear progression our school curriculum is broken down into common Skill Areas that are shared by all of our Topics. As pupils progress through the school, the lesson Learning Objectives in each of these areas build directly on the skills learned in the previous academic year.

Please see the attached document for full details of how our lessons are linked to the National Curriculum, and how we achieve skill progression in this subject.

The national curriculum for design and technology aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world
  • build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users
  • critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others
  • understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook
